Insulated Jackets

Insulated jackets, also called puffy jackets, are much warmer per weight than any other clothing. They keep you warm while you take breaks, sit around camp, or sleep. Insulated jackets with hoods are the warmest.

You normally shouldn’t wear an insulated jacket while hiking because it will absorb water, perspiration, and ambient humidity. It should be kept dry in your backpack when you’re not wearing it. Don’t wear it in rain or wet snow. However, these jackets are good for low-intensity hiking at very cold temperatures and wind-chill factors. 

Your insulated jacket should be at least one size larger than your normal size to allow for layering underneath.
